Melbourne United upsets Sydney Kings in NBL victory

Melbourne United secured a 105-95 upset victory over the defending champion Sydney Kings at John Cain Arena. Cole Anthony led the performance for United, recording 30 points, eight assists, and six rebounds, while Josh Oduro contributed 27 points and Luke Travers added 19.

The win helped Melbourne United move from ninth to seventh in the NBL standings, snapping a two-game losing streak. Despite strong performances from Sydney’s Torrey Craig, who scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and Andrew Carr, the Kings struggled offensively in the third quarter, allowing United to build a significant lead.

Sydney coach Brian Goorjian attributed the loss to defensive lapses and a failure to contest shots. The matchup also featured a reunion between Melbourne player Joe Ingles and Goorjian, who previously won a championship together in 2009.
