Melcochita honored in La Victoria with sculpture and mural

Peruvian musician and comedian Pablo Villanueva, widely known as Melcochita, was honored in the La Victoria district with a sculpture and a mural to recognize his seven-decade artistic career. The ceremony, held at Parque Chicama, featured the unveiling of a fiberglass bust created by artist Raúl Franco in the presence of the artist and La Victoria Mayor Rubén Cano.

In addition to the bust, a colorful mural by designer Antonio Díaz was installed on Rivas Street, featuring one of the artist's signature catchphrases, “¡No vayan!”.

The tributes come shortly before Villanueva’s farewell performance, titled “Los 90 de Melcochita: la despedida del sonero,” scheduled for Saturday, September 26, at the Centro de Convenciones del Parque de la Amistad. The event will feature various musical guests to celebrate the 90-year-old artist.
