Wilma Melges 32 Wins 40th Trans Benaco Cruise Race on Lake Garda
The 40th edition of the Trans Benaco Cruise Race took place on Lake Garda, Italy, from July 25 to 26, 2025, covering the classic two‑day course between San Felice del Benaco, Riva del Garda and back to Portese. The race featured several classes, including the Protagonist 7.50, Dolphin 81, Asso 99 and the elite Melges 32 fleet.
The German‑registered Melges 32 “Wilma” (sail number GER 193), fielded by Circolo Vela Torri and skippered by Carlo Cavagna, secured overall victory with a total time of 7 h 30 m 22 s. Second place went to the Norwegian Melges 32 “Fremito d’Arja” helmed by Dario Levi, and third to “Lexotan” under Zeno Montresor. The Trans Benaco Hi‑Tech Trophy was claimed by the Asso‑class “Idefix”, skippered by Marco Cavallini, which also finished third in the Sunday race.
Wind conditions shifted from a northern Pelèr to a steadier Ora, favoring the Melges 32s and shaping the tactical battles across the fleet. The event attracted strong participation from Italian sailing clubs and international crews, highlighting the race’s reputation as a premier Mediterranean sailing competition.
