Melia farmers to receive compensation for 2025 drought losses
Farmers in Melia and surrounding areas within the Kileler Municipality are set to receive compensation following severe drought and water shortages experienced in 2025. The decision follows coordinated efforts between local agricultural producers, the Pinios Irrigation Water Users Association (TOEB), and government officials.
Christos Kellas, a Member of Parliament and former Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, confirmed that the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Margaritis Schoinas, has responded positively to the request for aid. The upcoming decision involves the granting of ‘de minimis’ aid to affected producers. The compensation aims to support crops including corn, cotton, tomatoes, and beans that suffered reduced yields due to the lack of irrigation water.
