Keçiören Municipality drug testing leads to legal probe
Ankara's Keçiören Municipality has launched a voluntary drug testing program for its staff, aimed at improving service standards and occupational safety. The initiative, led by Mayor Mesut Özarslan, involved testing through Delta Analiz ve Laboratuvar Hizmetleri A. Ş.
Initial screenings returned positive results for 171 employees. However, follow-up tests showed negative results for 42 of those individuals. Following these findings, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated legal proceedings against 129 employees under Article 191 of the Turkish Penal Code, which covers the use, purchase, or possession of drugs.
The prosecutor's office has requested biological samples, including blood, hair, and urine, from the 129 employees to determine the specific substances used and to proceed with formal investigations.
