Melih Gökçek provides statement in asset investigation

Former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek has provided a seven-page statement to prosecutors as part of an ongoing investigation into his assets. During questioning, Gökçek initially claimed he owned no real estate or vehicles. However, prosecutors presented a list of 26 passive real estate records associated with him.

Gökçek responded by stating that the listed properties were previously owned assets that had since been sold. He explained that certain properties in Şanlıurfa Halfeti were inherited from his father. Regarding his family, he noted that his wife holds inherited properties in Akçakoca and claimed he has no knowledge of companies or real estate held by his children.

Gökçek also admitted to selling a villa in Ankara for $1.265 million in 2018 to provide financial support to his son, Ahmet Gökçek, who works in real estate. He further stated that his daughter-in-law, Hülya Gökçek, comes from a wealthy family and manages her own commercial activities, but he claimed no involvement in her business operations.
