Melih Meriç injured in knife attack in Gaziantep FAST-MOVING

Melih Meriç, a Member of Parliament for the Yeni Parti in Gaziantep, was injured in a knife attack in the Şahinbey district. The incident occurred in the İbni Sina neighborhood while Meriç was visiting local shopkeepers.

The assailant has been identified as Seydi Ahmet Keleş, a former CHP Oğuzeli District President. Following an argument, Keleş allegedly attacked Meriç with a knife. The suspect fled the scene and is currently being sought by law enforcement.

Meriç was transported to Gaziantep City Hospital, where he underwent surgery. While some initial reports indicated his condition was critical, Gaziantep Governor Kemal Çeber later stated that Meriç is stable and not in life-threatening condition.

Political leaders have condemned the violence. TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş and Justice Minister Akın Gürlek both issued statements condemning the attack and calling for a thorough investigation. AK Party spokesperson Ömer Çelik also expressed condemnation of the incident.
