Meliha Varešanović featured as symbol for Conrad Festival in Poland

Meliha Varešanović, whose photograph became a symbol of dignity and resistance during the Siege of Sarajevo, has been selected as the central visual for the 18th edition of the Conrad Festival in Krakow, Poland.

The festival, themed ‘Disobedience’, utilizes a legendary 1994 photograph taken by Tom Stoddart. The visual identity, designed by Marcin Wolny, aims to highlight the power of civil disobedience and resistance against aggression.

Paulina Frankiewicz, the festival's program director, noted that while modern times may seem comfortable, disobedience remains both a privilege and a duty. Varešanović is expected to appear on the festival stage in Krakow.
