Turkey implements widespread infrastructure and urban renewal projects
Various regional authorities across Turkey are implementing extensive infrastructure, transportation, and urban renewal projects.
In the transportation sector, major roadworks are underway on the TEM Highway near Istanbul, the Izmir Ring Road, and the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir Highway. Drivers are being warned of lane closures and diversions. In Ardahan, road construction issues involving loose gravel have raised safety concerns for motorists. Meanwhile, Kocaeli is improving intersection safety in Başiskele, and Iğdır is paving rural roads in Tuzluca.
Urban and rural development initiatives include the Turgutalp Urban Transformation Project in Bursa's İnegöl district, which aims for completion by 2027. In Kahramanmaraş, Lütfi Köker Boulevard is undergoing a 26 million TL renovation, and intersection improvements are being made at Tevfik Kadıoğlu to reduce traffic delays. In Kars, a new concrete road project has launched to improve rural access.
Utility and social infrastructure projects are also active. Bursa is upgrading drinking water and sewage lines in Keles and Nilüfer. Kırıkkale is resurfacing schoolyards with hot asphalt, and the North East Anatolia Development Agency (KUDAKA) has provided over 147 million TL to support 68 industrial and manufacturing projects in Erzurum, Erzincan, and Bayburt. Additionally, tunnel excavations for the Buca Metro in Izmir are nearing completion for a planned 2028 opening.
