Melilla and A Guarda announce new mountain and urban race events
The municipality of A Guarda will host the inaugural I Milla Urbana of the Fiestas del Monte on 3 August, a 1,609‑metre urban mile race that will include categories for children, seniors and veterans and serve as a prelude to the traditional Monte Santa Trega climb. Registration is open until 31 July, with a fee of €2‑3.
In Melilla, the Federation of Climbing and Mountaineering (FMEM) together with the city’s Sports Department will hold the second edition of the nocturnal mountain race on 3 October at the Fort of Rostrogordo. The event will feature three race distances—over 10 km, more than 20 km, and a 5 km hike—aimed at a broad range of participants. Sports councilor Miguel Ángel Fernández and FMEM president Juan José Rojas highlighted the success of the first edition and the growing interest in the race.
Both events are intended to promote physical activity, tourism and community participation in their respective regions.
