Melilla holds ceremonies to honor local figures and victims of recent accidents
The Autonomous City of Melilla held a traditional floral offering at the Purísima Concepción cemetery to honor distinguished local figures. The ceremony, attended by the Government Delegation, members of the Assembly, the General Command of Melilla (Comgemel), and Senate President Pedro Rollán, included tributes to Civil Guard members killed by ETA, victims of a 1998 plane crash, victims of a 1997 water tank rupture, and those lost to COVID-19.
During the commemorations, a minute of silence was observed for the victims of the railway accident in Urda, Toledo, which resulted in at least 69 fatalities.
Separately, the Rotary Club of Melilla concluded the official visit of District 2203 Governor Juan José Frías with a tribute dinner at the Real Club Marítimo de Melilla. The event included representatives from the Melilla Association for UNESCO, following a recent national collaboration agreement between the Spanish Federation of Associations and Clubs for UNESCO (FECU) and Rotary International. This alliance aims to promote projects in education, peace culture, human rights, sustainability, and international cooperation.
