Melilla hosts 70th Assembly of Spain's Jewish Quarters Network

Melilla hosted the 70th Assembly of the Red de Juderías de España-Caminos de Sefarad, marking the city's recent integration into the organization. The network, which currently includes 27 Spanish municipalities, aims to conserve and promote Jewish and Sephardic heritage.

Melilla is distinguished within the network as a “living judería” because it maintains an active Sephardic community. Unlike other historical sites that focus primarily on archaeological preservation, Melilla possesses functioning synagogues, a Sephardic museum, a cemetery, and ongoing liturgical and linguistic traditions.

The assembly included local officials such as President Juan José Imbroda and Culture Counselor Fadela Mohatar, alongside José Mazarías, the president of the network and Mayor of Segovia. The event served to introduce Melilla's unique living heritage to the other member municipalities.
