The III Suncruise Maritime Meeting was held at the Real Club Marítimo de Melilla, bringing together shipping companies, port authorities, and tourism operators. Under the theme ‘Talking with Shipping Companies: Blue Navigation through the Alboran Sea’, the event focused on sustainable development and the potential of Melilla as a maritime destination.
Discussions addressed the relationship between ports and shipping lines, the adaptation of infrastructure to industry demands, and the role of marinas in diversifying local economies. Miguel Ángel Díez García, manager of Puerto Sotogrande, participated in a roundtable to share expertise on port management, digitalization, and sustainability.
The maritime sector in Melilla shows signs of growth, with recent calls from vessels such as the Balmoral, Artania, and Norwegian Escape. Outlooks for 2027 and 2028 remain positive, with many cruise schedules already being finalized, highlighting the importance of converting geographic advantages into economic activity and employment.
