Melilla prepares for 2027 total solar eclipse tourism

Melilla is preparing to position itself as an international tourism destination for the total solar eclipse occurring on August 2, 2027. The local government aims to capitalize on the astronomical event, which is expected to last approximately 4.5 minutes in the city, to drive economic activity.

Tourism Counselor Miguel Marín stated that the city’s coastline and beaches are ideal locations for viewing the phenomenon. To manage the anticipated influx of visitors, authorities are exploring ways to increase accommodation capacity, including the potential use of a hotel ship to meet the rising demand.
