Melilla public employment grows by 7.5% in one year

Melilla has seen a significant increase in its public sector workforce over the past year. According to data from the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Civil Service, the city had 10,431 public employees in January 2026, representing a 7.5% increase from the 9,703 recorded twelve months prior.

The growth is distributed across two main administrative levels. State administration employees rose by 7%, reaching a total of 9,157. The Autonomous City's workforce grew by 11.6%, adding 132 positions to reach a total of 1,274. State employees currently account for 87.8% of Melilla's total public workforce, while Autonomous City employees make up the remaining 12.2%.

Demographic analysis shows that while men remain the majority in the state workforce (63.2%), the female workforce grew at a faster rate (8.8%) compared to the male workforce (5.9%) over the year.
