Melipeuco showcases culture and tourism in Santiago

On Friday, 12 June, the municipality of Melipeuco organised a free public event at Parque Los Domínicos in the Las Condes district of Santiago. The showcase featured traditional Mapuche cuisine such as lamb on a spit, live music, and a variety of local products – textiles, honey, nuts, and handcrafted souvenirs. Among the artisans present was the “Tablas Nativas” workshop, which produces 100 % handmade wooden tables, mate vessels and Mapuche instruments from recycled native woods.

The purpose of the event was to promote Melipeuco, a commune in Chile’s Araucanía region known as the gateway to Conguillío National Park, and to attract Santiago families to its natural and cultural attractions. The mayor, Alejandro Cumiña o, highlighted that about 46 % of Melipeuco’s territory is protected wilderness, underscoring its potential for sustainable tourism.
