Melis Terzioglu traces family roots from Turkey to Sjenica

Melis Terzioglu, a 35-year-old woman raised in Turkey, has embarked on a journey to uncover her family's ancestral roots in Sjenica, Serbia. For generations, her family passed down stories of her great-grandfather, Murat Đukić, who left Sjenica in 1928 in search of a new life.

Driven by the desire to preserve these fading memories for her own three children, Terzioglu traveled to Serbia in 2023. This marked the first time a member of her family had visited the region in nearly a century. Her mission aims to bridge the gap between her Turkish upbringing and her family's historical connection to the Balkans.
