Mellody Hobson resigns from LA28 Olympic organizing board
Mellody Hobson, co-founder of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, has resigned from the board of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games organizing committee, LA28. Hobson reportedly cited the need to focus on the upcoming opening of the Lucas Museum, which is scheduled to open to the public on September 22.
Her departure comes amid pressure from the Fair Games Coalition, an activist group seeking to address issues such as living wages, affordable housing, and protections for undocumented immigrants in relation to the 2028 Games. The coalition expressed disappointment in her decision, stating that she could have used her influence to support community needs rather than resigning.
LA28 has faced various logistical and political challenges, including concerns over ticket pricing, security, and transportation. The committee is currently led by chairman Casey Wasserman.
