Melon and watermelon prices rise in Castilla-La Mancha

Prices for melon and watermelon have increased during the current campaign in Castilla-La Mancha, according to the latest session of the Melon and Watermelon Price Board held in Manzanares.

Melon prices saw significant growth. First-category melon rose from 0.12–0.14 euros/kg to 0.23–0.26 euros/kg, nearly doubling in value. Extra-category melon increased from 0.23–0.25 euros/kg to 0.28–0.30 euros/kg. Second-category melon, which previously had no quotation, entered the market at 0.14–0.16 euros/kg. Melon with the Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) La Mancha remains without a quotation.

Watermelon prices showed more moderate movement. Seedless black watermelon of the first category reached 0.24–0.26 euros/kg, up from 0.21–0.23 euros/kg. Second-category seedless black watermelon rose to 0.16–0.18 euros/kg. White watermelon prices remained stable, with first-category varieties at 0.24–0.26 euros/kg and second-category at 0.16–0.18 euros/kg. Pollinator watermelon also saw a slight increase to 0.13–0.15 euros/kg.
