Meloni and bin Salman discuss maritime security and regional tensions

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni held a telephone conversation with Saudi Arabian Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman to discuss regional tensions and the necessity of diplomatic solutions. A primary focus of the discussion was the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation through the Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb straits, which are critical maritime passages for global trade and energy supplies.

The leaders also addressed bilateral relations, confirming plans to convene the first meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council. This follows agreements reached during Meloni’s visit to AlUla last year, aiming to provide political and operational continuity to cooperation between Italy and Saudi Arabia.
