Meloni government sets record as Italy's longest-serving administration

Giorgia Meloni's government has officially become the longest-serving administration in the history of the Italian Republic, reaching 1,413 consecutive days in power. This milestone surpasses the previous record held by Silvio Berlusconi's second government, which lasted 1,412 days between 2001 and 2005.

During celebrations in Bari, Meloni characterized political stability as the government's “first major reform,” arguing that it provides the necessary foundation for national planning and international credibility. She emphasized that the stability of her right-wing coalition allows Italy to act with more authority on the global stage.

The administration has highlighted several economic achievements, including the creation of over 1.3 million new jobs and a reduction in the unemployment rate to 5.7 percent. Additionally, the government claims a significant 80 percent reduction in illegal migrant arrivals compared to 2022.

Despite these milestones, the government faces ongoing challenges and criticism. Opponents point to issues such as low productivity growth, stagnant wages, and inefficiencies in public services. Looking ahead, coalition leader Matteo Salvini indicated that administrative elections are expected in the spring of 2027, with general elections following in the autumn.
