Meloni Government increases police staffing in Marche region

Italian official Baldelli has addressed ongoing staffing shortages within the police force, attributing current personnel deficits to previous budget cuts and the Madia Law. He highlighted that the Meloni Government is implementing measures to strengthen the State Police, particularly in the Marche region.

In the Marche region, a reinforcement plan in 2025 added over 50 new units, which has helped resolve staffing issues in the Fano Police Commissioner's office and improved conditions in Urbino. Further assignments totaling 72 units have been planned for the Marche region for January 2026, with 15 of those allocated to the province of Pesaro Urbino to support the Questura, Fano Commissioner, Road Police, and Postal Police.

Additionally, the 233rd course of trainee agents is expected to provide 20 more units, split between the Pesaro Questura and the Fano and Urbino Commissioner's offices. While unions have noted that retirements and previous legislative impacts still leave gaps in specialized sectors like Polfer, Road Police, and Postal Police, recent increases in personnel represent a significant shift in staffing levels.
