Meloni moves to normalize Italy‑US relations after Trump spat
Italian comedian Enzo Iacchetti staged a provocative TV segment that lampooned Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and U.S. President Donald Trump, depicting Trump as an unstable child and attacking the centre‑right government.
In a separate interview, Meloni said Italy will restore normal bilateral work with the United States, stressing that the relationship must return to its “solid” post‑war foundation. She downplayed recent confrontations with Trump, affirmed Italy’s commitment to NATO, and noted upcoming diplomatic engagements with the U.S., France and Germany. The premier also mentioned the cancellation of Antonio Tajani’s U.S. mission and reiterated support for freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
