L'Aquila: over 5 million euros awarded for Cinema Massimo restoration
The Municipality of L'Aquila has awarded an integrated contract exceeding 5 million euros for the second phase of the Cinema Massimo restoration. This historic building, located in the city center, was damaged during the 2009 earthquake.
The project, part of a total 7 million euro investment, includes executive design, structural consolidation, architectural recovery, and system upgrades. The goal is to transform the former single-room venue into a small multi-screen cinema with three additional rooms of approximately 50 and 70 seats. This initiative is significant as L'Aquila prepares to serve as the Italian Capital of Culture in 2026.
Funding for the works is provided through various CIPE and CIPESS resolutions. Following the first phase completed in 2018, which focused on structural safety, this second stage aims to restore decorative elements and ensure the building is fully functional for the community.
