Melton Secondary College implements remote work for teachers
Melton Secondary College in Victoria, Australia, has implemented an official work-from-home policy for its teaching staff to combat burnout and manage increasing workloads. Under this arrangement, teachers can work remotely one day every fortnight to focus on administrative and preparatory tasks, such as lesson planning, marking, and parent communications.
Approximately 81 of the school’s 190 staff members have utilized the option. Principal Kathryn Sobey introduced the formalised structure to provide educators with more control over their time and to reduce the need for unpaid weekend work. Teachers participating in the program report improved efficiency, better opportunities for deep thinking, and an improved ability to balance professional duties with personal responsibilities.
