Melvin Council Jr. returns to Kansas basketball

Melvin Council Jr. will return to the University of Kansas basketball program for the upcoming season after being granted a preliminary injunction in New York. The ruling allows Council additional eligibility following a legal challenge regarding recent NCAA junior college eligibility rules. Council argued that his two years spent at a junior college should not count toward his NCAA eligibility.

Head coach Bill Self announced that Council will begin practicing with the team immediately. Council, who was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year last season, averaged 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. His return provides veteran leadership and defensive toughness to a roster that also includes returning player Tre White and several elite freshmen.
