Melvin R. Hintson Reed sentenced to 66 years for attempted homicide

Melvin R. Hintson Reed has been sentenced in Washington County Circuit Court to 43 years of initial prison confinement followed by 23 years of extended supervision. The sentencing follows a jury conviction for attempted first-degree intentional homicide with a dangerous weapon and physical abuse of a child.

The convictions stem from a June 15, 2025, attack in the Village of Germantown, where Reed stabbed an adult female victim multiple times, including a near-fatal wound to the chest that lacerated her heart. During the assault, the victim’s juvenile daughter attempted to intervene to protect her mother and was struck in the hand with a knife.

Following the incident, Reed was located by law enforcement in Indiana, where he fled from officers in a semi-truck before driving off a bridge.
