Melzo and Bari roll out new traffic rules and pedestrian boulevard upgrades

In the Lombardy town of Melzo, the municipality has completed a series of road works associated with the former Galbani site. Urban buses will resume their historic route through the city centre, traveling via Via Martiri della Libertà, Via XX Settembre and Via Nazario Sauro before turning onto Via Casanova. New traffic measures on Via Casanova include a permanent one‑way direction from Via Nazario Sauro toward Via Gorizia, relocation of paid‑parking bays to the west side of the street, the addition of extra free‑parking spaces, and the creation of two school‑drop‑off bays near San Giuseppe school to improve safety and flow for heavy vehicles and commuters.

Meanwhile, in the southern city of Bari, work continues on the transformation of Via Manzoni from a vehicular road into a tree‑lined pedestrian boulevard. The project features the installation of diamond‑shaped paving, the restoration of historic lava‑stone slabs uncovered during excavations, and the planting of twelve evergreen terebinth trees on the first block. Volunteer groups have helped replace saplings that were removed from school garden beds, and the overall redesign aims to create social spaces, improve environmental quality, and celebrate the street’s textile heritage through patterned stonework.
