Memmingen Airport invests in infrastructure to support passenger growth

Memmingen Airport, also known as Allgäu Airport, is undergoing significant infrastructure expansions following a period of intense growth. After serving 3.7 million passengers last year, the airport expects passenger numbers to reach 3.8 million this year.

The airport operator is currently investing over ten million euros into terminal and apron improvements. Key projects include the creation of new gates in the terminal's upper floor to benefit non-Schengen travelers, terminal balcony modernizations, and new roofing for weather protection. Additionally, the airport is expanding its apron with two new aircraft parking positions that will be supplied with ground power from the airport’s own photovoltaic systems.

Long-term planning is also underway, with construction of a new parking garage providing 1,800 spaces estimated to cost 23 million euros, scheduled to begin in 2029. The airport has transitioned from a former military airfield to a major regional hub in southern Germany, seeing increased service from airlines such as Ryanair and Wizz Air.
