Memmingen, Germany to host Europe’s largest historic reenactment festival in July 2026

Memmingen in the Allgäu region of Germany will stage the Wallenstein historic festival from 26 July to 2 August 2026. The four‑day event commemorates the 1630‑era encampment of General Albrecht von Wallenstein and features a large parade, cavalry displays, theatrical performances, a hand‑craft market and period‑accurate camps.

More than 4,000 participants in historically authentic costume and equipment will transform the town’s old centre, and organisers anticipate several hundred thousand visitors over the week. The festival, which takes place every four years, aims to present local history rather than glorify the military leader, offering families and history enthusiasts a vivid immersion into life in early‑17th‑century Memmingen.
