Memmingen police handle drunk driver on A96 and homeless shelter clash

Police on the A96 near Memmingen found a 41‑year‑old man intoxicated and sleeping under a guardrail; he was taken to a police cell for his safety and sobriety. Earlier incidents on the same highway included a 70‑year‑old driver who lost control and collided with a concrete barrier, lightly injuring an 85‑year‑old passenger, and a truck whose tire burst near Leutkirch, igniting a fire but causing no injuries.

Separately, a disturbance at a Memmingen homeless shelter on the night of 1 August 2026 led to multiple police deployments. A 54‑year‑old man assaulted a 33‑year‑old woman, and later a 31‑year‑old man repeatedly obstructed officers, assaulting a police officer before being detained. A second altercation saw the 54‑year‑old man strike a 37‑year‑old man, who then resisted police and was also taken into custody. Both aggressors face charges for assault on officers and resistance.
