Memorial and Eczacıbaşı promote breast cancer awareness
In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Memorial Sağlık Grubu and Eczacıbaşı Spor Kulübü organized an event to emphasize the importance of early diagnosis. During a volleyball match where Eczacıbaşı Peron İstanbul defeated Aras Kargo 3-0, fifteen women who had successfully overcome breast cancer joined the players on the court to share their messages of awareness.
Simge Aköz, captain of Eczacıbaşı Peron İstanbul, celebrated the resilience of these women and specifically honored her own mother, who recently overcame the disease. Memorial Sağlık Grubu CEO Bora Uludüz highlighted the power of sports in driving health awareness, urging women not to neglect regular medical check-ups.
In a related medical context, specialists at Diyarbakır Memorial Hospital reported that approximately one in eight women is at risk of breast cancer, with roughly 5 million new cases diagnosed globally each year. Dr. Musluh Hakseven noted that while risk increases after age 40, cases are also seen in women as young as 20. Medical professionals are urging women to perform self-examinations and utilize mammography, countering misinformation that the procedure causes cancer, as early detection remains vital for successful treatment.
