Rome hosts digital campaign on Serbian historical suffering

The Memorial Center of Republika Srpska is conducting an international digital campaign titled ‘Learn About Serbian Suffering’ in Rome. Running from September 7 to 13, the initiative uses large LED screens at prominent locations across the Italian capital, including Piazza della Repubblica, Via Nazionale, Castel Sant’Angelo, and near the Vatican.

The campaign aims to present historical facts, archival documents, and personal testimonies regarding the suffering of the Serbian people during the 20th century, particularly during the wars in the former Yugoslavia. Director Denis Bojić stated that the goal is to ensure the Serbian voice is heard internationally and to prevent political pressures from replacing historical truth.

Italian researcher Lorenzo Bernasconi of the Machiavelli Foundation noted that the history of the wars in the former Yugoslavia remains insufficiently known to the Italian public despite the geographic proximity of the Balkans. The campaign seeks to provide a perspective on civilian victims through more than 1,500 collected audio-visual testimonies.
