Memorial Center Srebrenica faces tax evasion probe and staff support

The District Public Prosecutor's Office in Bijeljina opened a pre‑investigation case concerning the 2022 operations of the Memorial Center Srebrenica, suspecting violations of tax and contribution laws under article 264 of the Republika Srpska Criminal Code. At this stage all individuals potentially involved are being called solely as witnesses and no formal investigation order has been issued.

The Center’s Board of Directors publicly backed the employees subject to summons, affirmed their right to lawful and impartial treatment, and announced an independent review initiated by director Emir Suljagić to establish the facts of the case. The Board also denied possessing a disputed staff list that is reportedly held by the Police Administration of Zvornik. Both the prosecutor’s office and the Center appealed to the media to report based on verified facts and avoid influencing public opinion.
