Memorial stair climbs honor 9/11 victims and first responders

Various memorial events were held to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, focusing on honoring the first responders who lost their lives.

In Flushing, New York, more than 600 service members, first responders, and community supporters participated in a stair climb at Citi Field. Coordinated by Team Red, White and Blue (Team RWB), participants climbed 2,200 steps, with some carrying 40 pounds of gear, to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the attacks.

In Monmouth, UK, firefighter Owen Batty completed a 4,000-step charity climbing challenge in full firefighting gear. The marathon, which took seven hours and 32 minutes, was held at Ludus Gym to raise funds and honor the 343 members of the FDNY and others who died during the rescue and recovery operations at Ground Zero.
