Memory advancements target AI workloads in new laptop and server hardware
Hardware manufacturers are introducing significant memory capacity advancements aimed at AI and high-performance computing workloads.
SIXUNITED has launched the AXN88B-160M-YD, a laptop featuring the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 ‘Gorgon Halo’ processor. The device is equipped with 192GB of LPDDR5X-8533 memory, a capacity designed to support large language models and professional AI workstations rather than standard gaming. The laptop includes a 16-inch 120Hz display, dual M.2 PCIe Gen4 SSD bays, and a dual battery setup.
In the server sector, Micron has announced the demonstration of the world’s first 512GB DDR5 RDIMM. Utilizing Through-Silicon Via (TSV) technology, these modules can reach speeds of 9,200MT/s. When used in a 24-slot dual-socket server, the configuration can support up to 12TB of memory. This advancement aims to improve efficiency in data-intensive tasks like in-memory databases and simulations, with mass production expected in late 2027. AMD and Intel are currently involved in verifying the module.
