Memory chip stocks fall on competition from China's CXMT

Shares of major memory manufacturers, including Kioxia Holdings, Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, and Micron Technology, have faced downward pressure following technological announcements from China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT).

CXMT recently revealed plans to introduce next-generation DRAM using a 4F² architecture, aiming to deploy server-oriented DDR5 memory modules by the end of 2026. This structure allows for higher storage density per unit area compared to the current mainstream 6F² architecture. The market's reaction reflects concerns that increased competition from Chinese firms could impact global memory prices and profitability.

While CXMT specializes in DRAM and Kioxia focuses on NAND flash memory, the broader semiconductor sector has seen volatility. CXMT's market capitalization has seen significant fluctuations, and the company currently holds approximately 7% of the global DRAM market share by revenue. Despite the competitive pressure, some analysts note that high demand for AI data centers continues to support elevated memory prices in the short term.
