Memory chipmakers face critical earnings week amid AI demand scrutiny
Major global memory chipmakers, including SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics, Kioxia Holdings, and CXMT, are set to release earnings reports this week. These disclosures are viewed as critical indicators for the near-$1 trillion memory chip market and the broader artificial intelligence industry.
While these companies are expected to report significant revenue and profit growth due to ongoing semiconductor shortages, investors are exhibiting increased caution. Concerns center on rising borrowing costs and the possibility that massive capital expenditures for AI infrastructure may outpace future returns.
In South Korea, the Bank of Korea projects that semiconductor output will continue to climb through the first half of 2027, driven largely by demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM). Despite increased production capacity at facilities like SK Hynix’s M15X and Samsung’s Pyeongtaek site, the central bank expects demand for HBM to continue outstripping supply, maintaining pricing power for manufacturers.
