Mempawah DPRD member under investigation for land burning

Police in Mempawah, West Kalimantan, have upgraded the investigation into a land-burning incident involving a member of the Mempawah Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), identified as Choirussaib (CNF). The case gained public attention after a video went viral on social media showing the official burning land to clear it for palm oil and corn planting.

Mempawah Police Chief, AKBP Ade Chandra Capa Yanto, confirmed that the case has moved from an inquiry to a formal investigation stage. Authorities have conducted a crime scene investigation and interviewed the official along with several witnesses. Forensic laboratory teams have also been deployed to the site for further analysis.

In the video, the official stated that the land had previously burned, and he was burning the remaining debris to prepare the area for new crops. While the investigation is ongoing, police have not yet specified the exact criminal charges being applied.
