Memphis Depay nears contract renewal with Corinthians amid demanding terms

Dutch striker Memphis Depay arrived in Brazil in early August to complete medical examinations required for a new two‑year contract with Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. The club has sent revised contract drafts, but negotiations remain stalled over several of Depay’s requests. His representatives seek a 10% salary increase, a share of title‑related bonuses, use of a VIP box at the Neo Química Arena and the right to rent the stadium twice a year, with half of the event revenue going to his team. The player also wants a financial reward if Corinthians wins the Club World Cup within the next three years, a demand the club has rejected.

Corinthians, facing a sizable debt to Depay estimated at around R$ 45 million, has agreed to restructure the amount with payments beginning in 2027 and to accept a salary reduction from the previous R$ 3.5 million. President Osmar Stabile and chief medical officer Dr. Ricardo Galotti stress that a clean bill of health is essential before the deal can be finalized, as the club seeks stability amid financial constraints and a FIFA transfer ban.
