Memphis Grizzlies honor former forward Brandon Clarke
The Memphis Grizzlies held a tribute for former forward Brandon Clarke during the team’s season opener against the Utah Jazz. The ceremony included a video highlighting Clarke’s career and community involvement, followed by a moment of silence before the national anthem.
Clarke, 29, passed away on May 11 in Woodland Hills, California. A medical examiner’s report attributed his death to the effects of heroin and cocaine. Prior to his death, Clarke had been arrested in Cross County, Arkansas, following a high-speed chase involving 200 grams of kratom.
A Gonzaga alumnus, Clarke played seven seasons with the Grizzlies, averaging 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. To honor his memory, the Grizzlies will wear patches featuring his initials on their uniforms throughout the current season.
