Memphis Grizzlies trade Ja Morant to Portland Trail Blazers

The Memphis Grizzlies have entered a new era following the trade of Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers. In exchange for the two-time All-Star point guard, Memphis received Jerami Grant, Kris Murray, and $1 million in cash. Morant, who has approximately $87 million remaining on his rookie extension, joins a Portland backcourt that includes Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday, and Deni Avdija.

In Memphis, the team is focusing on a young core centered around recent No. 3 overall draft pick Cameron Boozer and Zach Edey. Despite undergoing two procedures on his left ankle over a nine-month period, including surgery in March, Edey is expected to be healthy for the start of the upcoming season. Analysts suggest that the pairing of Edey and Boozer could create one of the league’s most formidable frontcourts.
