Memphis Tigers face Charlotte 49ers in conference opener

The Memphis Tigers (3-1) are set to face the Charlotte 49ers (0-4) in their American Conference opener this Saturday, October 3, at Jerry Richardson Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Memphis enters the matchup following a 45-21 victory over Tennessee-Martin, led by quarterback Marcus Stokes, who recently earned American Conference Weekly Honorable Mention honors. The Tigers' roster features 81 newcomers this season. Despite their current success, Memphis holds a 6-7 record in American Conference openers since joining the league in 2013.

Charlotte seeks its first win of the season after losses to The Citadel, Ole Miss, Appalachian State, and Louisiana. The series has historically been competitive, with Charlotte pushing Memphis to the brink in their previous two meetings.
