Men face significant barriers to mental health support

Research highlights a growing crisis in men's mental health, driven by social stigma and workplace expectations. A report by LiveCareer found that 78% of surveyed men have hidden stress, burnout, or mental health struggles at work to maintain a professional appearance, with 84% believing there is a cultural expectation to ‘tough it out’. This pressure has led 65% of respondents to consider or actually leave jobs that negatively impacted their mental well-being.

In the United Kingdom, suicide remains the leading cause of death for men under 50, with a rate of 17.6 per 100,000—approximately three times the female rate. Data suggests that 22% of men cite ‘perceived stigma’ as the primary barrier to accessing care. Organizations like Movember continue to raise funds for men's health, focusing on prostate and testicular cancers as well as ‘mental fitness’ to combat these trends.
