Menarini Group marks 65 years in Spain and discusses obesity drug research

Menarini Group is marking 65 years of operations in Badalona, Spain. The facility serves as a strategic scientific and industrial hub for the company, housing its headquarters, production plant, and a Research, Development, and Innovation (R+D+i) center. In 2025, the company reported net sales of 280 million euros and produced 69.6 million pharmaceutical units, with 65% destined for international markets.

At a recent congress celebrating the 50th anniversary of Fondazione Menarini in Italy, Stefano Del Prato, president of the foundation, discussed potential new benefits of next-generation obesity and type 2 diabetes medications. Preliminary, unpublished study data suggests these molecules may reduce hospitalizations for infections and could potentially lower all-cause mortality by 60% in patients with diabetes and cardiovascular disease. While these findings regarding infection protection are promising, researchers emphasize that further studies are required to clarify the underlying biological mechanisms.
