Mendel University students develop SUNIO energy management platform

Students and graduates of Mendel University in Brno are developing SUNIO, a platform designed to help municipalities, companies, building managers, and energy communities manage energy more efficiently.

The system integrates scattered data from various sources—including utility bills, meter readings, photovoltaic production, battery status, and room temperatures—to provide a comprehensive overview of energy usage. By analyzing this data, the platform identifies inefficiencies, such as energy consumption outside of operating hours or the heating of underutilized spaces.

A key feature of SUNIO is its ability to perform simulations using digital building models. This allows managers to compare the potential impact of different energy-saving measures before implementing them. According to project author Jakub Procházka, the goal is not to recommend new technologies for their own sake, but to use real data to show what is happening within a building and help users make sensible decisions, whether through new investments or better utilization of existing systems.
