Mendelssohn sacred works featured in Berlin concert and new Naxos release

The works of Felix Mendelssohn are being highlighted through both live performance and new recordings. On March 22, 2026, the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester will perform at the Philharmonie Berlin under the direction of guest conductor Gregor Meyer. The program features Mendelssohn’s ‘Elias’, accompanied by the Berlin Philharmonic Choir and a vocal ensemble including sopranos Elias Julia Sophie Wagner and Henriette Gödde, tenor Lukas Siebert, and bass Krešimir Stražanac.

In addition to live performances, Naxos has released a volume of Mendelssohn’s complete sacred choral works. This recording features the WDR Radio Choir Cologne and the Cologne Chamber Orchestra conducted by Christoph Poppen. The collection explores the composer’s religious output, which ranges from liturgical Lutheran works to major oratorios such as ‘Paulus’ and ‘Elijah’.
