Mersin and Izmir districts achieve international tourism recognition
The districts of Menderes and Selçuk in Izmir have been named among the Green Destinations 2026 Top 100 Stories. This recognition highlights their sustainable tourism projects, specifically focusing on women's cooperatives and local production models that integrate cultural heritage with economic development.
In Mersin, the Historical Kilikya Way walking project continues to draw significant interest from nature enthusiasts. Recent routes in the Silifke region, including the Olba Ancient City and the 2,200-year-old Roman road, allow participants to explore archaeological sites such as rock tombs and the Aslantaş Statue while traversing the foothills of the Taurus Mountains.
Other regional developments include infrastructure and cultural initiatives in Turkey. In Konya, Selçuklu Municipality is progressing with flood prevention and road construction in the Sille historical area. In Diyarbakır, new informational signage has been installed at the Hz. Süleyman Mosque and 27 Sahabi Tomb to guide visitors on religious etiquette and preserve the spiritual atmosphere of the site.
