Mendoza adoption crisis: 264 children awaiting families
In Mendoza, Argentina, 264 children with final rulings of adoptability are still waiting for families. Teresa Day, a minister of the Supreme Court of Justice, noted that the primary obstacle is a mismatch between the profiles of children in need and the preferences of prospective adoptive parents.
While there are approximately 80 individuals or couples registered to adopt, many are unwilling to adopt children over the age of three, sibling groups, or children with disabilities. Currently, about 90 children in the system have some form of disability, and 110 belong to sibling groups. Only about 11 prospective adoptive families have expressed a willingness to consider profiles outside of the standard preferences.
A provincial executive branch bill is being promoted to create alternative pathways for adoption, particularly in cases where affective bonds have already been established.
