Mendoza awards tourism concessions in Aconcagua Provincial Park
The Government of Mendoza has awarded concessions for tourism services within Aconcagua Provincial Park following a competitive bidding process led by the Ministry of Energy and Environment. The initiative aims to replace precarious permits with a structured regulatory model to organize and prioritize services at approach, base, and high-altitude camps.
The bidding process involved an open call that received twelve offers, which were subsequently evaluated based on administrative, technical, economic, and environmental criteria. The new framework includes zoning to determine carrying capacities and identifies specific areas for development versus those that must remain untouched to ensure conservation.
Concessions cover essential support services for climbing and trekking, including accommodation, gastronomy, sanitation, communications, cargo logistics, and authorized guides. These services will operate across several key locations, including Plaza de Mulas, Plaza Argentina, Confluencia, Pampa de Leñas, and Casa de Piedra. Eleven providers were selected to manage these operations.
